West Anatolia (Turkey), c. 203 x 139 cm, mid-19th century, during the Ottoman reign in Asia Minor in the 17th/18th century a commissioned carpet form emerged that was in keeping with the style of the court, carpets knotted by farmers and belonging to this commissioned type can also be found in the areas around Ushak, Konya and Bergama, the present prayer rug is partly knotted in cotton and wool with a high proportion of cochineal, the large main border with pomegranate blossoms arranged in a wave pattern is typical of this group, evenly low pile with original side edges, the lower end replaced.
